Reflections Art Show

On Friday, Boulevard hosted it's first Juried Art Show to go along with the PTA Reflections Art Program. We had three local artists come and judge all the hard and creative work from the students! It was a wonderful turnout and I'd like to thank April Meyer for all her hard work and support for this opportunity for the students.

5: Venetian Masks

The fifth graders are currently working on their first 3D project. They are making venetian-inspired masks. They looked at a number of Venetian masks and discussed the Celebration of Venice. Next, they used a face mold to cast their masks and will begin to decorate their festive masks next week!

4: Dream Houses

The students will look at different types of architecture and houses. We will discuss what an architect does, what types of shapes it takes to design a house, and how architecutre has evolved over the years. Students will then individually design their own dream house!

3: Why Was Picasso So Blue?

The third graders are starting to move into painting. They will begin by looking at Picasso's Blue Period and discuss why he worked with only the color blue at this point, what emotion and mood this evoked, and how to get different tints and shades out of a single color. The students will experiment with tints and shades using one color by creating a monochromatic painting of their very own.

2: Decorative Patterns!

Second graders are moving on to pattern making. As a class, we will discuss patterns, repetition, and rhythm. We will identify examples of patterns and look at some in the room and on clothes. We will practice different line patterns in class before breaking up a piece of paper into different sections and using these different patterns to fill in our spaces to make a fun piece of art!

1: Can-ya Henna?

The first graders are moving on to pattern and rhythm in my class. We will use music as a springboard for our discussion on pattern and rhythm by clapping out different rhythms and identifying repetition. Then we will make our own patterns using lines and shapes. From there, I'll tell students about how people way back in 1500 BC used to use temporary henna tattoos as a cultural means of celebration. They made intricate patterns on their hands with an ink they made from certain plants. The students will be able to connect this newfound cultural lesson with their pattern use by being able to use face painting sticks to recreate their pattern on their hand.

K: Shapely Bears

Now that the kindergartners have a good understanding of lines- we've moved on to shapes! As a class, we discussed different types of shapes and practiced drawing a few. Then, we made a panda bear out of circles and ovals!

Signs!

Every month I make a new sign for the students to read upon entering the classroom. Each quote is from a different artist. Here are the first couple!

Reflections Juried Art Show!

Reflections Program

Greetings Parents/Guardians: Boulevard Elementary is participating in the Reflections Program for the first time this year, which is a program sponsored by the National PTA and encourages students of all ages to be creative and expressive. This year’s theme is: “Believe, Dream, Inspire.” Students will be making a piece of work in a number of media that meet this theme. The program includes two afterschool extracurricular art workshops and a juried art show. The work from students whom are selected from the juried art show will have their work submitted for a regional competition. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who are especially artistic and/or interested in art to get their extra work out there!
